B.S., Electronic Technology
The Electronic Technology program is housed in the Department of Computer Systems Technology. Students who pursue this major will be able to interpret and follow electrical drawings, test and troubleshoot machinery, and create interfaces for various computer and electrical systems.
Electronics technology (ET), also called electronics engineering technology, is an engineering technology field that implements and applies the principles of electrical engineering. Like electrical engineering, ET deals with the design, application, installation, manufacturing, operation and/or maintenance of electrical/electronic(s) systems. However, ET is a specialized discipline that has more focus on application, theory, applied design, and implementation. Electrical/Electronic engineering technology is the largest branch of engineering technology and includes a diverse range of sub-disciplines, including applied design, electronics, embedded systems, control systems, instrumentation, telecommunications, and power systems. This program is also available online.
The curriculum combines technical course requirements with general education courses and technical electives. It includes mathematics courses, natural and physical sciences, technical courses that cover fundamental and advanced topics in electronics and circuit design, and elective courses in areas related to ET careers. Students take courses in DC and AC circuits, digital circuits, embedded systems, computer programming, the Internet of Things, and many other subjects. The curriculum ensures that ET graduates have the basic skills needed to operate, maintain, install, and repair electrical and electronic equipment. It prepares students for careers as electronics engineers, electrical engineers, robotics systems engineers, electronics technicians, electrical engineering technicians, power system engineers, etc.
