Student Groups Organizing Community Service Activities
- Step 1: Discuss and develop the community service activity with your organization's Advisor (if not associated with a student organization, individuals MUST collaborate with a student organization or campus department). Be sure to identify a Verifier. A Verifier is a person who will verify that services and/or goods have been rendered/ received. Verifiers can be the Point of Contact or Community Service Liaison at the facility/ community organization of which your organization is serving, the student organization’s Community Service Coordinator/ President or the student organization’s Advisor.
This information will be required when creating your event in GivePulse. The Verifier will either check participants into your event on GivePulse or receive an email to verify participant participation. - Step 2: Complete and submit the Community Service Proposal via 1891Connect to the Office of Leadership and Civic Engagement (OLCE). See Requirements for Completing and Submitting the Proposal.
- Step 3: Upon approval from OLCE, Submit your flyer for approval to COP via copeboard@ncat.edu. If your organization does not have a profile in GivePulse… (If so, skip to Step 6).
- Step 4: Build your organization’s profile in GivePulse.
- Step 5: After creating your organization’s profile, be sure to Affiliate with North Carolina A&T State University (this will allow your event to show up on NCAT’s GivePulse page for all students to see).
If your organization has a profile in GivePulse… - Step 6: Build your approved service activity as an Event under your student organization’s profile.
- Step 7: Advertise your service opportunity using the link and/or QR Code for RSVPs/ signups for your event.
- Permission from the student organization’s Advisor is required prior to submission of the proposal. Submission of the proposal acknowledges that the organization has received the Advisor’s approval.
- Identify the Point of Contact or Community Service Liaison at the facility/ community organization of which your organization is serving.
- Obtain a Partnership letter from the community organization of which your organization will be serving. Partnership letters should detail the agreement and understanding of the community service activity. ALL partnership letters should be on letterhead and have a live signature.
- Identify the Verifier for the service activity. The OLCE DOES NOT approve/ verify any service hours that are not coordinated through this office.
- All Community Service Proposal must be received at least 14 calendar days prior to the date of the service activity.
- Community service opportunities should be open to all currently enrolled students. (Except where background check/ prior approval is necessary or where national guidelines governing the organization prohibits).
- The Community Service Proposal must be APPROVED by the Office of Leadership and Civic Engagement. Student organizations nor individuals should not solicit or market their community service activity if a documented approval has not been received from OLCE.
