College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences

Department of Visual and Performing Arts

The chasm between science and the arts has been hotly debated for centuries. History reveals that science and theatre arts (drama and dance) have shared a successful symbiosis that has benefited society. This natural partnership continues to have positive effects on our culture by providing aesthetic satisfaction and evidence-based research.

The relationship between the two disciplines, the sciences and the art of theatre, are two disciplines; they are and have always been natural partners. Science and theatre seek the same goals, in the same way, using the same language. They both strive to understand the world through intelligence and insight. Scientists speak of “finding the truth,” and theatre artists work to “present the truth.” Both disciplines share a mutual desire---to improve the human condition. Science offers its discoveries and inventions as a tool for new developments. Theatre exposes our strengths and weaknesses in a manner that creatively reveals who we are.

The DAWN African American Alzheimer’s Research Study and NCA&T’s Theatre Arts Program will collaborate to share information and resources about the truthful medical atrocities dramatized in the play Miss. Evers Boys. Audience members will also learn critical information about the importance of participating in research studies and how the field has advanced greatly in the area of ethical standards.
