Mission Statement

North Carolina A&T State University's Collegiate Recovery Community (CRC) offers a positive affirming environment where recovering students can successfully pursue academic, personal, and professional goals to enrich their quality of life and become vibrant leaders of their communities.

Who are we?

Support from peers and licensed mental health professionals assist students in recovery from addictions. The CRC empowers students to maintain healthy lifestyles by providing activities, peer mentoring, groups, seminars, and resources that encourage academic achievement and support recovery maintenance. Our goal is to ensure that students in recovery feel integrated in the fabric that is N.C. A&T.

What is Recovery?

  • The process of becoming healthy after an illness or injury; the act or process of recovering
  • The process of returning to a normal state after a period of difficulty
  • The return of something that has been lost, stolen, etc.

What is Collegiate Recovery?

Collegiate Recovery provides support and resources for students attending North Carolina A&T who are in the recovery process from alcohol, drugs, and other addictive disorders.

The CRC is a safe place for students in recovery to connect with others and attend 12 Step-life skills meetings, as well as with planning campus activities.

What the Collegiate Recovery Community IS NOT:

The CRC is NOT a treatment facility. We do not provide residential nor outpatient treatment services. We do not work with government programming such as drug court, probation, or parole. We are not a halfway house. We provide support to students at N.C. A&T who are in recovery and desire to continue to live sober.

Please see below for a list of services and support we offer.

What we provide:

  • A safe place to meet others in recovery
  • A place for personal and academic growth
  • A place where you can receive support
  • A place to have fun
  • A place where you can support others in recovery

Program Eligibility

  • Acceptance into North Carolina A&T State University
  • A willingness to commit to ongoing sobriety; no specific amount of recovery time is required

Expectations of CRC Students

  • Attend one (1) campus recovery meeting every week
  • Commitment to the CRC program
  • Attend Celebration of Recovery
  • Commitment to service

What is BASICS?

BASICS is a four-session screening and discussion offered through Aggies 4 Recovery, the campus Collegiate Recovery Community. BASICS is free to all N.C. A&T students who want to explore their substance use. Some students attend BASICS to fulfill a requirement for mandated assessment as a result of a substance-related offense, while others participate because they would like to learn moderation strategies to reduce negative consequences. We will also see students who are thinking about whether they are better off moderating or abstaining. This program is designed to assist students in examining their own substance use behavior in a judgment-free environment. The goals are selected by the student and aimed at reducing risky behaviors and harmful consequences of substance use.

Want to be an Ally?

Allies work with the CRC to help students get what they need to stay healthy and sober, and thrive academically and personally. Allies offer a supportive network and help create a feeling of belonging. Knowing that someone believes in them and their potential for success is sometimes all that’s needed for students in recovery to stay confident and succeed.

Donations:

Individuals and Groups interested in making donations to the Collegiate Recovery Program for recovering students in crisis can do so in the following manner. Checks should be made available to N.C. A&T University Foundation. Please leave out STATE. Donors should write in the memo: Kay M. Harris.
