A MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR OF THE LAW CONCENTRATION
Are you considering law school? Economics has long been recognized as one of the top majors for preparing students to excel in legal studies. On average, economics majors achieve an LSAT score of 162, placing them in the top 20% of all test-takers—significantly above the average score of 150. This advantage can make a meaningful difference: a score of 150 may limit your options for top 100 law schools, whereas a 162 greatly enhances your chances of admission to top 50 programs such as UNC-Chapel Hill, Rutgers, Arizona State, or the University of Pittsburgh.
Why does economics prepare students so effectively for law school? Both fields require a deep understanding of logical reasoning, cause-and-effect relationships, and the consequences of decisions. With these parallels in mind, we have designed our Law and Economics Concentration in consultation with law professors and admissions experts to equip students with the skills and knowledge they need for success.
This concentration combines the foundational principles of economics with additional coursework in philosophy, writing, communication, and law, providing you with a well-rounded academic experience. Students also have the option to take an LSAT preparation course as part of their studies, further strengthening their readiness for law school.
If you are passionate about pursuing a legal career and want a major that positions you for success, the Law and Economics Concentration at North Carolina A&T offers an ideal pathway. We invite you to explore everything this concentration has to offer. If you have questions or need guidance, don’t hesitate to contact me, Dr. Mark Burkey, at burkeym@ncat.edu.
