EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. (Oct. 6, 2021) – Beginning Oct. 21, the Theatre Arts program at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University will present Charlayne Woodard’s autobiographical “Pretty Fire,” a powerful play that embraces and ignites childhood memories. From a favorite rain slicker to Mom's great big breakfasts, to the first day at a new school, everyone has stories about being young and the events and people that shaped who they would become.
“Pretty Fire” offers five compelling vignettes tracing Woodard’s life from a premature birth to a joyous maturity at age 11. Set in the small world of Albany, New York, and the hilltop of the Black town of Rosignol Hill, Georgia, three generations of family love, struggle and triumph unfold.
Under the direction of Gregory Horton, the production is filled with earthy humor that will take audiences on a journey through a world in which family bond is as strong as steel. This NAACP award-winning play is a lyrical rite of passage that embraces and ignites memory.
The Theatre Arts program and Paul Robeson Theatre adheres to all COVID-19 protocols and procedures. Seating will be limited to practice social distancing and masks are required for audiences and all front of house staff. Everyone is encouraged to follow safe hygiene practices to help prevent the spread of the virus.
