EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. (Sept. 14, 2022) – The Leadership Studies and Adult Education Department at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is offering a leadership ethics seminar series, “Ethical Leadership, Decision-Making and Research in Modern Times.”

The department, which is housed in N.C. A&T’s College of Education, will present the five-part series that features graduates of the university’s leadership studies doctoral program.

The series is open to N.C. A&T students, staff and faculty. Each part of the virtual series will be from 6 to 8 p.m. The dates, speakers and topics are:

  • Thursday, Sept. 15, Ernest Cuthbertson ’18, “Leadership Ethics, Wealth-building and Politics in Modern Times”
  • Tuesday, Sept. 20, Bryle Hatch ’18, “Leading  and Making Decisions: Building Community and Playing the Game”
  • Monday, Oct. 10, Karen Martin-Jones ’11 and Sharon Lassiter ’22, “Leading in Today’s Climate: Working with Organizations to Address Ethics and Biases”
  • Thursday, Oct. 20, Dexter Sharp ’20, “Leading Holistically: Mentoring, Developing and Advocating for Students”
  • Thursday, Oct. 27, Demetria Siler ’19, “Ethical Leadership and Decision-Making- A Community College Leadership Perspective,” and Deborah Torain ’21, “The Best Laid plans: Reflections on Getting a Doctorate and Building My Career in Leadership”

A new mandate is emerging in leadership and leadership education that calls for colleges and universities to embed equity, diversity, inclusion, belonging, social justice, resilience and emotional intelligence into learning. This call is especially important for students in graduate and professional school settings, where new and emerging leaders traverse their career and move closer to high-ranking leadership positions in organizations with employees from different backgrounds.

“To understand how to move forward within the current leadership theory, research and practice contexts, we must also understand how leadership moral identity, moral courage and ethics interact with research and practice,” said Karen T. Jackson, Ph.D., assistant professor of leadership studies. “In this leadership seminar series, alumni leaders from the leadership studies doctoral program will share their experiences in leading organizations and performing research in different areas of ethical leadership, decision-making and designing research.”
