EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. (Jan. 12, 2024) – As part of the search for North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University’s next chancellor, a public listening session will be conducted on Friday, Jan. 19, from 8 to 9 a.m. via Zoom.
Public input is critical to selecting the next chancellor for N.C. A&T. This session provides an opportunity, in addition to the Constituent Input Survey, to hear from the public, gain insight and collect information that will help identify factors important for the search advisory committee to consider.
Additional listening sessions have been scheduled separately for students, alumni, faculty, staff and other A&T constituents.
A&T’s next leader will succeed Chancellor Harold L. Martin Sr., who announced his retirement Sept. 22 after 14 years of leading the institution. Martin will remain in office through the end of the 2023-24 academic year.
The search advisory committee is led by Hilda Pinnix-Ragland, immediate past chair of the university’s Board of Trustees. Its next meeting will take place Thursday, Jan. 18, before the public listening session.
The committee is tasked with identifying high-quality candidates and making recommendations to the full A&T Board of Trustees following a national search. The trustees will vote on a slate of candidates to send to University of North Carolina President Peter Hans for consideration. Hans will then nominate a finalist to the UNC Board of Governors, which will elect a chancellor.
Under UNC policy, the search advisory committee is composed of up to 13 voting members, including representatives of the trustees, faculty, staff, students and alumni.
The policy also calls for a current or former chancellor of a UNC constituent institution, the president and representatives of the UNC Board of Governors to serve on the committee.
