A&T Extends “Decision Day” Deadline to May 15 for All New Undergraduate Students

EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. (March 22, 2024) – North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is extending its traditional May 1 enrollment deadline for incoming undergraduate students to May 15. The new deadline is for new first-year students as well as incoming transfer students.

The U.S. Department of Education’s overhaul of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) has led to unexpected and widespread delays since last fall. Delays in completing final changes to the new FAFSA have complicated the college admissions process for many students. A completed FAFSA is required for any student who seeks federal financial aid.

To give students and families sufficient time to get complete information on student financial aid and understand how it affects their financial circumstances, North Carolina A&T leaders decided to extend the usual deadline by two weeks. 

“This year’s applicants to North Carolina A&T are outstanding, and those whom we have admitted are some of the most accomplished students in the nation,” said Joseph Montgomery, associate vice provost for Enrollment Management at A&T. “For them and their families, choosing where they will begin school this fall is a major, consequential decision. We want each student and family to have complete information so that they can feel confident they are making a sound decision.”

A&T is ranked America’s most affordable doctoral research university, according to Money magazine’s “Best Colleges” rankings. It is also the nation’s No. 1 producer of African American graduates in agriculture and engineering and No. 2 in communications/journalism and liberal arts, giving the university influence and impact far beyond North Carolina.

Like other members of the UNC System, A&T has held tuition static for seven years to help students and families afford a quality college experience. For most A&T students, however, paying for college still requires financial aid, and for federal assistance, such as the widely used Pell Grant, a completed FAFSA is required to determine each family’s level of need and the amount of funding for which they qualify.
