N.C. A&T’s University Choir Joins Choral Arts Collective for “Shout for Joy” Concert

EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. (March 18, 2024) — The melodies from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University’s University Choir will ring alongside the Choral Arts Collective ensemble in a concert celebration titled “Shout for Joy,” presented by the Bel Canto Company and Gate City Voices.

The concert, featuring 150 singers, will be held Monday, March 18, at 7:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 617 N. Elm St. The catalogue will include works by well-known composer Adolphus Hailstork.

Gate City Voices is an auditioned, volunteer choir that performs with Bel Canto Company, whose mission is to create an inclusive performance outlet for community singers seeking musical excellence.

Led by Maestro Travis Alexander, the N.C. A&T University Choir is the top choral group in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts, which is part of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. The choir has a rich performance history, having sung at the White House and has been featured on programs like Black Issues Forum and UNC-TV and was recently recognized with a $100,000 gift from the Tom Joyner Foundation for its excellence after a notable spring concert last year.

“The University Choir students are rehearsing twice a day with excitement in preparation for the inaugural collaboration of N.C. A&T and Bel Canto Company,” said Alexander. “It is a tremendous opportunity for the students and I encourage all alums, family and friends to attend.”

Prices are $30 for general admission, $25 for seniors (65+), $10 for college students, and $5 for high school students and younger. Group discounts are available for groups of 10 or more.
