EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. (June 20, 2024) – Bobby L. Cuthbertson, MBA, assistant chief of the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University Police Department, has completed the 10-week National Academy training conducted by the FBI at its Quantico, Virginia, training headquarters.
Cuthbertson is the first N.C. A&T law enforcement professional to go through the training, which spanned from late March through graduation June 6. Academy instructors, special agents and other bureau staff with advanced degrees – many of them recognized internationally in their fields – provided the training.
Cuthbertson was among 201 law enforcement officers from 24 countries, 46 states, five military organizations, six federal civilian organizations and the District of Columbia in this 290th session of the National Academy. All participants are required to have proven records as law enforcement professionals, and graduates typically return to their agencies to serve in executive-level capacities.
FBI Director Christopher Wray delivered keynote remarks at the commencement ceremony in Quantico, where the bureau trains all new special agents and intelligence analysts.
“We’re tremendously proud of Assistant Chief Cuthbertson and his achievement in this prestigious training, which will not only affect his knowledge and preparation but will impact our entire department,” said A&T Police Chief Jermaine Cherry. “One of the reasons that our university environment is among the safest of any higher education campus in North Carolina is that we invest in professional development of our officers, better enabling them to meet the modern, evolving needs of law enforcement.”
Since the beginning of the FBI National Academy in 1935, 55,186 people have graduated from the program. Internationally recognized for its academic excellence, the academy focuses on advanced communication, leadership and fitness training.
