EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. (Aug. 30, 2024) – A seasoned law enforcement leader who previously served for eight years as police chief for North Carolina State University will assume leadership of the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University Police Department as interim chief starting Aug. 30.
Jack W. Moorman, Ed.D., MPA, is a familiar face at North Carolina A&T, having previously served as interim police chief in the 2020-21 academic year. He brings to the position a 35-year career in law enforcement, 13 of them serving in senior roles for the N.C. State Police Department, as he replaces A&T’s retiring chief, Jermaine Cherry.
In addition to holding an Ed.D. in education from N.C. State, Moorman is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the advanced threat assessment and management academy at UCLA. He is also a 2019 recipient of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, awarded by Gov. Roy Cooper.
Since formally retiring from the State of North Carolina in 2019, Moorman has been an instructor/consultant for the National Association of Campus Safety Administrators, teaching courses on the federal Clery Act, facilitating tabletop emergency exercises and serving as an instructor in NACSA’s Command College.
